Making the case for SaaS: Gary Katzeff
13 March 2009
Gary Katzeff has recently joined NetReturn as head of Professional Services. Here Gary makes a case for SaaS and why Netsuite think they are the right SaaS port for the current economic storm.
SaaS providers like NetReturn are ideally positioned during the current economic downturn to provide web-based software on a rental basis, with no extensive hardware infrastructure and associated costs, thereby making it a more cost effective solution that can be allocated to a client’s operational expenditure budget.
“During downtimes such as the one we are currently experiencing, clients need to be able to deliver increased productivity and efficiencies without budgets for large capital expenditure,” says Gary Katzeff, Professional Services Manager, NetReturn.
NetReturn (www.netreturn.com.au), with more then 200 customers deployed on their SaaS application, NetSuite, has experienced rapid growth over the past three years and has recently had an increase in enquiries from businesses wanting to explore SaaS further.
“Companies have had to rethink their IT expenditure in search of a more cost effective solution and the SaaS delivery model presents a compelling case for businesses to streamline their operations without compromising functionality,” said Andrew Birch, CEO, NetReturn.
While these types of backend solutions are normally very expensive, SaaS applications are more cost effective because they are web-based, very quick to implement and do not require extensive hardware infrastructure and associated costs. This means that small and medium businesses that embrace the SaaS delivery model can compete on equal terms with large enterprises, from an operational software perspective.
Why is the Market choosing SaaS & Netsuite?
Andrew Selby (Pre-sales Manager) for NetReturn say’s :
• run your business not your software
• single system to run your business, replacing multiple systems that do not talk to one another
• platform for growth
• improve efficiencies
• enterprise-type functionality at a mid-market price point
• deeper functionality across multiple industry verticals, that other mid-market software cannot provide

With the current economic climate, small to medium businesses (SMBs) are at a higher disadvantage to compete in the market due to difficulties in affording the necessary IT infrastructure. However, Software as a Service (SaaS) offers enterprise level operational and management advantages for such SMBs that can cost as much as 75% less than traditional business software applications.
Ongoing costs resulting from SaaS can be adjusted up or down based on usage of the application. Therefore, no matter the state of the SMB, costs can be predicted and managed more accurately with SaaS. As a result, SMBs are likely to emerge from this current climate in more competitive positions than they would otherwise.
